Your front desk team is the first line of defense in an active shooter or armed intruder situation. How they respond in those critical first moments can mean the difference between life and death. The key to survival? Preparation, awareness, and strategic action.

Nationally recognized healthcare safety, security, and risk management expert, John M. White, CPP, CHPA, brings you a specialized 60-minute online training designed to equip your front desk staff with the lifesaving skills they need. With 40 years of experience, John will provide actionable strategies to help your practice respond effectively to a violent threat.

What Your Front Desk Team Will Learn:

  • Escape Planning: Create and execute an exit strategy from the reception area during an active shooter event.
  • Threat Identification: Recognize different types of active shooter scenarios and how to respond accordingly.
  • Defensive Tactics: Utilize everyday office items as defensive tools in a crisis.
  • Early Warning Signs: Identify behaviors and red flags that indicate escalating aggression.
  • De-escalation Language: Use specific phrases to defuse tense situations before they turn violent.
  • Risk Assessment: Pinpoint potential security weaknesses at your front desk and implement protective measures.
  • Incident Reporting: Establish a streamlined threat reporting process to prevent violent situations from developing.
  • Emergency Response: Understand when to call law enforcement and how to communicate the threat effectively
  • Confidence Boosting Strategies: Empower staff with proven methods to stay calm and act decisively under pressure
  • Psychological Triggers: Recognize key factors that contribute to aggressive outbursts and how to mitigate them.

Why This Training Is Essential:

Violent incidents in medical offices are becoming more common. Real-life tragedies, such as the mass shooting at a Tulsa medical clinic that left four people dead or the targeted attack at a GI clinic, highlight the urgent need for preparedness. Statistics show that many violent events are carried out by patients, visitors, or strangers not employees putting your front desk team at significant risk.

This training provides your entire practice with the tools to mitigate and respond to an armed threat, ensuring the safety of your staff and patients. By learning these practical, step-by-step survival strategies, your front desk staff will gain the confidence and knowledge to take action when it matters most.

Who Should Attend?

While this training is specifically designed for front desk personnel, the skills and strategies covered will benefit every member of your practice. Whether you work in administration, patient care, or leadership, understanding active shooter response protocols is crucial to safeguarding your workplace.
